These instruments go by many names, and Octave Mandolin or Irish Bouzouki are just two. I started building them because I wanted to
have an instrument that stood between the mandolin and the guitar, and this fills that spot. They can be made with several different
scale lengths and use many different tunings, when I play I prefer regular mandolin tuning, one octave lower.
My Octave Mandolins
are played by Brooks Williams, James Spalink of the band An Dro, and on the grammy-award winning album by the Dixie Chicks, "Taking
the long way" (the song "Silent House").
